Swaziland Support Letter

We've now sent out our support letters for our trip to Swaziland to most of our family and friends, but we wanted to post the letter on our blog as well.  We're in a bit of a crunch right now, as we both need to have raised $2500 by September 9th; this means that we each need to raise over $1000 in the next two weeks.  Please pray the Lord will provide the necessary finances for us to continue in the process of traveling to Swaziland to serve the least of these...

July Update

The dog days of summer are here.  We seemed to be enjoying a rather lovely summer and then, wham!  Hot, stifling air hits not only us, but basically the entire continental US.  Needless to say, I am very thankful for air conditioning these days!

Isaac returned from Costa Rica and went to work the very next day and basically hasn't stopped working since!  It's good that he is able to get a bunch of hours since he didn't work for two weeks while he was out of the country and therefore didn't get paid for two weeks.  He is now gearing up for classes that start in just a few short weeks.  Third year, here we come!

I also have been working a lot; I feel like I am always at the office.  Between conference calls with various Congressmen, meeting with other social service agencies, and welcoming new refugee elders to Louisville, I am pooped.  The Elder Program was out for summer break this month, but it definitely did not feel like a break to me!  The volunteers with the Elder Program have really stepped it up in this time of craziness.  They are, without a doubt, the best volunteers with which I have ever worked!  We are also getting three MSW interns in late August, and I'm really excited about the work they will be doing as well.  Be sure to check out the blog for the Elder Program too; we may be on break, but the blog is still chugging away (click on the picture to be taken to the blog):

We were able to celebrate Independence Day at Crescent Hill's Old Fashioned Fourth of July.  We live in Crescent Hill, a fabulous neighbourhood here in Louisville.  The event boasted many juried artists, music, food, a vintage car parade, and of course, fireworks.  We were very close to where the fireworks were launched- I don't think I've ever been that close to those heavy-duty fireworks.  We spent the day with several of our friends and had a wonderful time.

There are no words...

One of the many classic cars...

...and not so classic...

My favourite part of the parade!

When I saw these, I told Isaac I was going to see if they would let me get on one...he didn't really believe me until I started waving at him from the seat!  And yes, I was petrified that I was going to fall at any second and make quite a mockery of myself...but it was still so cool!

One good shot of the fireworks...

A few days later, we celebrated our anniversary by going to Kings Island, a famous amusement park outside of Cincinnati.  We were really excited to go, but unfortunately as we were standing in line for our first roller coaster of the day, I literally almost passed out and needed to get out of line.  I ended up being okay, but we only got to ride a few of the attractions before the heat exhausted us too much.  The park was actually pretty crowded that day as well, and the waiting time for each attraction was a bit long.  We ended up leaving earlier than planned and zipped over to IKEA and enjoyed their displays and air conditioning.  Isaac was so precious because I think he felt really bad about me almost passing out (which, to my knowledge, I have never done before).  He kept picking up different things he thought I would like and would say,  "Would you like this?  It's only $5.99"  or "Do you want this?  It's only $7.99."  We did end up getting a few things and enjoyed a nice dinner at IKEA.  Don't laugh, we love their food and it is cheap to boot.  Even though it didn't go as planned, I didn't mind because we got to spend a whole day together (which is quite a rarity with our schedules).  The upsetting part about the whole day is that I didn't take any pictures!  I think we will try to return to Kings Island when it's a bit cooler and hopefully a little bit less crowded...

The only other super exciting thing which happened in July was the marriage of one of our community group members, Amber.  It was such a beautiful wedding:

I was already bawling by this point...

It was a great first kiss!

Beautiful love.

Well, folks, that was our July!  August brings big changes with school and work and everything in between; hope everyone has enjoyed their summer!
